The duck
Over the past three months I’ve been parking in the same spot when I go to the pool
and I’ve noticed that this one particular duck always comes over to me
even if he’s across the street when I pull up,
he’ll come over to me
sometimes he’ll take my bread or other things that I have to feed to him
and other times he’ll just look at me and walk away.
It’s been really fun getting to know my new friend the duck
almost every time
something different happens
it fun to watch his behavior and personality
Today I pulled up and I fed him and then his partner came down from the sky and landed in the road
kind of with a hard thump
and I noticed that while it was trying to eat
what I threw out there,
it wasn’t moving to get more ,
and I got a little bit closer, and I threw the food to where it was
and this duck was in a lot of pain… it just gave up on eating
so I backed off for a while and just sat back in my car and watched
……. the other duck
My friend with the fun personality kept going over to the injured duck
walking to it
and then walking away over to the grass
and then walking over to it
and walking over the grass
like it was showing it how to go
and where to go
But this other duck was in so much pain.
It was just laying in the road
so I started praying for the duck
and I thought of all the things that I could do to help it
I could grab a shirt and pick it up and move it over to the grass
but then I thought well if I do that,
then I might scare it
cause it to hurt its leg and i might make it worse
then, worse things could happen
and then I thought well if I do that, then maybe that duck will trust me and it’ll be thankful for it
but later down the road someone will try to hurt it
and all cause it trusted them
like it did me.
Which might be bad for the duck
I kept trying to help it in my mind with all different kinds of ways on how to help it
without hurting it in the future
so I had all these different thoughts of how I could help
how it would hinder
how I could help
how It could hinder the duck
and this is the thought that came to me
Let me kind of explain what my thoughts were…….
I slowly walked up to it about 15 feet away and i Just started talking to it, Explaining to it what I was going to do
and then I said I’m just gonna move forward and I’m just gonna help you out
and I’m just gonna Give you Hopefully the confidence so that you can get out of the road Then go lay in the grass and rest
It is 6 AM so luckily nobody is driving around
and so I walked up to it and waited till it got up. It’s leg bent backward and I could tell it was in pain
and then I slowly nudged it forward.
Just walking ever so slowly, not trying to scare it but to urge it forward
It was Quacking the whole time and then it needed a break and I noticed and I backed off
and let it take a break for a little bit , and then I keep going, I moved forward and let it move forward across the road
eventually it came to the curb that it had to jump up to onto the curb
It was hard to watch and not be able to reach down and help
But eventually, it made it up And then it went and laid in the grass
It took about 10 minutes to help it to get to the grass
And my other friend, the other duck just nestled its head into its wings and looked
as if it went to sleep like it could rest,
knowing that the other duck Was safe
I have been watching the ducks for about 20 minutes since I helped them over in the grass
And off of the road
I am so glad I got inspired not to touch the duck
But to let it figure out on its own
that it could do it
I was only there to encourage it
And let the duck know that it could do it on its own
through kindness and encouragement
as it was going…
And then I backed off and let it rest
This was a really fun experience this morning
The brown duck is the one that always comes around me and has such a fun attitude
The green one is the hurt duck
